Whaleburger
Whaleburger evolved out of a fictional advertisement in The Standard Special Lift-Out. In 2013-4, commercial whaling was topical in the Australian media as international pressure mounted on Japan to cease whaling in the southern ocean.
To gauge the public's response to the issue, I wore two sandwich boards which addressed commercial whaling in different ways. In Melbourne, the boards were designed to promote a new 'whaleburger' and in Tokyo they took the form of protest signs. The video presented here shows the sandwich boards as they move through Tsukiji fish market and Takeshita-dōri in Harajuku, Tokyo. The still images capture the sandwich boards in both Toyko and Melbourne.
